Actors will always need staple pieces for auditions and shoots (polos, blazers, slacks, etc). However, a majority of your life, photos, and auditions can actually be done wearing the exact same shirt!
The trick is picking the right one for you. Watch this slideshow to see three reasons why you should consider a life uniform, and get three tips on how to pick the best shirt for you.
video outline available below
Since you should wear the same outfit for the initial read and the callback, you'll always be callback ready.
No need to scrounge through the laundry if you always wear the same shirt.
You can reduce decision fatigue, and therefore added stress, by making one less decision about your outfit.
Save your energy for making decisions about your scene.
If you pick the right shirt, you'll always look your best and boost your confidence.
Worrying about how you look is that last thing you need during an audition, so let's look at a few tips for picking the right shirt.
Which color gets you the most compliments? This is called your power color. Find your power color since it's the most flattering.
Mine, for example, is blue because it makes my blue eyes pop on camera.
I think a T-shirt is the best option since you want to find a shirt that easily transitions seasons with layers.
That way you're not stuck buying a new set of shirts every time the seasons change. Be sure to find your best neckline, too (i.e. crew neck or v-neck).
Narrow down your options. Search for a top that's on sale, and then buy 10 of them.
I think 10 is the magic number because you'll have clean shirts for the week with some to spare for laundry day. It also saves you from needing to buy another shirt should you accidentally damage one.
Keep price drop alerts on Target shirts. I scored mine on sale for $4.50 each! They usually offer free in-store pickup or shipping for online orders as well.
The clothes you wear can make or break the impression you're giving casting.
